Lula Music and Arts Centre is a non-profit organization with the mandate to support world music through presentations, festivals, worshops and audience development. (Formerly called Open City.CA Arts Group, in January of 2010 we received approval to ammend our articles of incorporation to reflect our new name.)
While supporting world music from around the globe, Lula Music and Arts Centre has a strong focus on presenting work that draws on Afro-Latin-Brazilian forms as these evolve in a Canadian context.
While much of the programming takes place at Lula Lounge at 1585 Dundas West in Toronto, past collaborative projects outside of Lula include the Samba Squad 10th Anniversary Concert at the Phoenix Concert Theatre, Samba on Dundas, and Curminin at the El Mocambo.
More about Lula Music and Arts
Lula Music supports the artistic development of local musicians while striving to foster and expand audiences for this music locally, nationally and internationally. Lula Music also aims to provide support for the artistic and career development of professional musicians working withing our area of focus.
Lula Music strives to present culturally diverse music that would otherwise be under-represented in Canada.
Although our focus is on music, the musical traditions that Lula Music seeks to foster are inextricably linked to their related dance forms. Lula Music celebrates and promotes the participatory dances that have developed along with Afro-Latino-Brazlian rhythms.
Lula Music is dedicated to maintaining diversity at the board, committee and programming levels.
